The controversy and community response to their version is tame compared to what I faced in ultra-conservative Manhattan, Kansas. We had aggressive picketers, petitioners, hate letters, anonymous threats, an onslaught of negative letters-to-the-editor, and police discrimination. There were many stories in the local papers. The ABC affiliate out of Topeka came to Manhattan and did an on-site story that ran state-wide on the evening news, and the CBS affiliate invited us to join them in-studio for their half-hour morning show (which we declined since things were spiraling out of control). I would do Internet searches at the time that would call up page after page of hits about me and my store. My Pink Taco dominated the regional news and spread nationwide through online postings and reprinted stories in towns across the country. He has been a blessed individual and will continue to be blessed regardless of the outcome of his present situation. I am also a friend of J. and he is such a awesome person. This is just a stepping stone that he needs to overcome, and with God on his side he will. We will see J. again on the track. And to Jaime, don't lose respect for Justin due to something that you don't know anything about. Because when he gets through this he will be back on top again, and I'll hate for you to have to swallow the remarks that you have made. Justin is an awesome person all the way around. The NFL wants monopoly rights over shoe contracts. The NFL seems to shun the individual pursuits of its athletes more than the NBA and MLB. I mean, Nike paid Jordan way more than the Bulls ever did. One of the things the NFL is about is keeping player salaries down. By promoting the league, rather than individuals, this limits the contract bargaining power of all but the very best stars. I suspect that the rule change a few years ago that forbid players to remove their helmets on the field was out of concern that fans might start developing a taste for particular players out of uniform. I expect that the NFL will face a rival league sooner than later. Players don't earn enough to keep them from jumping to a rival league that is run properly. This is a very interesting story.
